Want to take up knitting…what do I need?

As per title, I want to take up knitting as a hobby but I’m sure what I need in terms of knitting tools. I think I would first like to do simple things like scarfs and beanies, what type and size needles would be suitable for these kinds of projects? Thanks in advance.

Besides yarn shops, you may find lessons in non credit classes from local community colleges. Or you may have the good fortune to know someone who knits and can help you. If you tell your family and friends you want to learn they may know who can help.

There are also good videos about learning to knit online, just search and click on “videos” at the top of your screen and you will get a list of videos to help you. There is also a book called “I taught myself to knit” that is sold in Walmarts stores in the craft section where the yarn is, and the book comes with the basic tools, except for the yarn. I think you get knitting needles, a cable needle, and a stitch holder all with the book for a reasonable price. I would select a yarn color that contrasts with the knitting needles you will use, only because this makes it easier to see what you are doing. If they are the same color or very close in color it can be hard to see the stitches.

I also really like the Denise interchangeable knitting needles. You can make a lot of sizes and lengths of circular needles, and they needle part is very easy to use because it fits in your hand comfortably. It is like knitting with nothing. I don’t work for them or sell that product, I just like it a lot. The kit is pricey, it sells for $50.00 everywhere, but you get a large selection of needle sizes, fron 6 to 15, and cables. You save the cost of buying all those sizes of needles individually for at least $5.00 a set, and the Denise ones are easier and more comfortable to use. I use them for everything now in preference to my ordinary needles, which I do actually have in every size. End of commercial, LOL.
