Gauge Swatch Fabric sock?

I'm trying to do less guessing, in Review and calculation … I know to cast the 30 or 40 stitches, then I can work in jersey knitted or stitch pattern? The pattern is likely to continue until k4/p2 rib instep / foot (half points in each round standing). Do I have to stretch "a bit" as some advocate? Not at all? I'm getting a little OCD with this … I know some people just throw points and getting started but I love this thread and cry if the socks are too far away. Thanks in advance indicator any advice you may have!

As Overall, the pattern will tell you how much the work of the gauge in. If not, I would use the stitch pattern. No stretch at all. Good for you – working in a sample of gauge was a lesson I had to learn several times …
